Midazolam is the drug that is used for rescue therapy when someone is having an active convulsion. This is useful to stop the convulsion and prevent it from getting converted into longer and stronger seizures such as status epilepticus.
Midazolam comes as a spray that one needs to spray through the nostril or in a buccal cavity. Let’s see what precautions we need to take while using the spray.

Steps while using Midazolam
1. Take all necessary first measure steps.
2. Refer to your doctors prescription of Midazolam spray.
3. Time the seizure.
4. If the seizure lasts more than the specified time e.g 5 minutes then use the spray.
5. Make sure the patient is in a semi-upright position and his head is supported.
6. First use spray in the air 2-3 times so that trapped air comes out.
7. Gently put the spray at the opening of the nostril and give the prescribed amount of spray.
8. The recommended dose of MIDACIP Nasal Spray is 0.2 mg/kg body weight. The dose should be equally divided and administered into each nostril.
9. Placing half the medication in each nostril will reduce the volume while doubling the available surface area for absorption.
10. If after using seizures continue for the next 5-10 minutes then the same dose can be repeated once.
11. Post-spray person may go to sleep.
12. Use spray maximum twice in 24 hours.
13. If seizures continue despite using midazolam spray then take the person to the nearest hospital.
